Mysuru: The varsity’s board of management member and BJP MLC G Madhusudana alleged that the Karnataka State Open University is admitting students through collaborative institutions and demanded that the UGC should probe into KSOU’s activities.
The BJP MLC approached UGC joint secretary Renu Bathra seeking a probe into the varsity’s activities. He asked her to do a spot inspection and launch a thorough investigation. If the UGC is unable to do it, he said, it’s better to shut down the varsity.
The KSOU top brass headed by registrar PS Naik met UGC officials in Delhi earlier this week to present the varsity’s case in its effort to get recognition for its courses, which were derecognized from 2012-13.
According to a daily, this follows another letter the varsity received from UGC on October 1 in which it sought clarification from the authorities on its directives. “The UGC asked the varsity to cancel the MoUs signed by it with the collaborative institutions individually and send the list,” they said.
The UGC also asked about the status of the case filed by it in the Delhi high court where it has challenged the UGC directive on territorial jurisdiction, they said.
