Mysuru: MPs Shobha Karandalaje, Prathap Simha among other leaders were taken into custody and later released by the police when the BJP resorted to staging a protest against the state government for its Tipu Jayanthi celebration plans, on Monday, November 7.
The BJP leaders had taken part in a massive protest rally that started off at Kote Anjaneya temple and culminated outside DC’s office.

Addressing the protesters, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandalaje said that Tipu Sulthan was a fanatic who only harmed the Hindus.

“He ransacked and demolition innumerable temples. He had fought the British only to save his own throne,” said Karandalaje adding that even as 14 RSS workers were killed in the state, the government could not do anything about it. She demanded the government to hand over these cases to the CBI.

MP Prathap Simha endorsed her views and said that Tipu Jayanthi celebration will hurt Hindu sentiments.

When the police department denied permission for the protest rally, the angry protesters shouted out slogans. Soon to act, the police took Shobha Karandalaje, Prathap Simha and others to custody and later released them. They also submitted a memorandum to the DC in this regard.
