Mysuru: The Catholic Association of Mysore ushered in the spirit of Christmas on Sunday by organising a carol singing competition at St. Philomena’s High School premises.
A total of 91 teams, including students of high schools, colleges, religious organisations, professional choirs, and churches, from across the city and district participated in the 12th Diocesan Level Carol Singing Competition. Rev. Fr. N.T. Joseph, Parish Priest, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, inaugurated the event. Over 5000 carol singers took part in the competition.
Among 91 teams, 30 groups were from high school, 19 groups from Parish churches, 17 groups from religious institutions, 10 groups from colleges, and 15 groups from professionals and public. Singers put up a bright show at the event that commenced around 9.30 am. Some attired in colorful costumes brought alive the birth scene of Christ. Carols including ‘Silent Night’, ‘Joy to the World’, ‘O come all ye faithful’ were sung on the occasion.
Carolling, which heralds the birth of Jesus Christ, is one of the oldest customs among the followers of Christ. People sing carols to keep the Christmas spirit up. President of Catholic Association of Mysore Alexander Vincent, Vice-President Arokiadass, General Secretary Premandanda D’Mello and Executive Member Albert Vincent were present.
