Mysuru: The state government, taking cue out of the recent inglorious PU question paper leak incidents has made installation of CCTV cameras in all SSLC examination centres mandatory. With this, Mysuru district alone requires about Rs 38 lakhs to install the CCTC cameras. A proposal for the same has been forwarded to the government and the monetary aid is expected to reach them in January while the examination is scheduled to be held in the last week of March.
However, this comes with minor twist. Due to time constrains, the government has now decided to install cameras only in vantage points including the spots where question papers are stored and the areas where the movement of the paper takes place. The district has 134 examination centres- 64 government schools, 37 aided schools and 33 unaided schools. Since most of the aided and unaided schools are under CCTV camera surveillance, only 64 government schools are pending.
Basappa, DDPI, Mysuru district said that there is a need to install atleast four cameras in each school. That sums it up to Rs 60,000 per centre to install required number of CCTV cameras. “We had talks with the firms who install CCTVs, they have assured to install these cameras in three to four days. As of now, we intend to install CCTVs only at vantage points. Last year we had 150 examination centres, this year there will be 134 centres, in cities we will be clubbing some of the schools,” he said.
