Mysuru: Union Minister for Power, Coal, Mine, New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal has said that the Centre was keen on promoting electric cars and would encourage their production in the future.

During the visit to the city to take part in a party programme titled “Sankalpadinda Sidda”, he said the government was keen on promoting indigenously made as well as other electric vehicles in the future. It will reduce environmental pollution as well as cut costs so that more people can buy their own vehicles, he added.

State hijacking Centre’s programmes

The Karnataka state government is hijacking many central schemes and creating its own brand ambassadors, alleged Goel referring to UJALA, the Central sponsored scheme, rechristened as “Hosa Belaku” by Congress-led state government.

The UPA regime sold 6 lakh bulbs at reduced rates during its tenure where as the Modi-led NDA government has sold more than 25 crore bulbs within three years, stated Goel and added “people should assess the facts.”

The Centre is supplying surplus power to Karnataka and electric tariff rates can be accessed on the mobile daily, said Goel and wondered why the state government in Karnataka was resorting to power disruptions.

Compared to last two years, the central assistance to Karnataka has increased three-fold this year and the state should take measures to lessen people’s woes, advised Piyush Goel on the occasion.
