Chamarajangara: The Villagers of Irasavadi staged a protest demanding legal action against an influential person from Andhra Pradesh, for illegally encroaching on land belonging to Dalits in Thimmegowdanapalya Limits.

Speaking on the occasion, Village Leader M. Nanjundaswamy said that in Survey No. 55 of Thimmegowdanapalya, on the way to K. Devarahalli Village of BRT Wildlife Sanctuary in the Taluk, 72 acres of land was allotted to 18 farmers at the rate of four acres each.

The farmers had been cultivating this land for many years, and several times due to drought, crop loss due to wild animals and many other reasons the farmers used to migrate elsewhere for coolie work. Due to this for several years farmers were unable to grow crops. Given this background, the Forest Department officials have made use of 60 acres of farmers’ land for preparing elephant trenches among others. The man from AP planned to usurp the remaining Survey Nos. 55/48, 55/49, 55/50, a total 12-acre land by erecting coconut saplings and stone fencing on the land belonging to the farmers of Iraswadi Village.

When the farmers asked about this, at Yelanduru Police Station false complaint was registered on the villagers that they had destroyed the coconut sapling, stone pole and wire fencing of the land.
