Chamarajanagara: Government apathy, body buried in GP premises

Chamarajanagara: Villagers in Mamballi of Yelanduru Taluk buried a dead body in Gram Panchayat Office premises on Thursday September 1 as they were unable to reach burial ground following rise of water level in Honnuhole river.

It is said that Chandramma (48) a villager died of cardiac arrest on the night of Wednesday August 31. Followed by heavy rains the villagers were not able to cross Honnuhole River to reach burial ground.

A Village leader Veerabhadraiah told that since a decade, the villagers demanded elected representatives , MLA and District Administration to construct a bridge to cross the river. But no one heeded to their demand. The water level increased in river following water release by CNNL officials from Suvarnavathi reservoir.

In protest against negligent attitude of elected representatives and government the villagers buried the body in Mamballi GP premises.

The police and officials who were present at the time tried to persuade villagers not to do the same. But villagers buried the body in protest against apathy of government.

Yelandur Sub Divisional Magistrate Geetha Hededa, Tahasildar Bangara Naik, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Priyadarshini Sanekoppa visited spot.
