Chamarajanagara: The body of an infant with a birth defect was found in an empty tank of a private hospital in Kamakare of Kollegal taluk here in the district.
The crew of the Holy Cross Hospital, who went in search of where the foul smell emanated from found the corpse in the empty water tank. The decomposed body of the newborn infant was found wrapped in plastic cover near the mortuary.
A newborn male infant is about 6-days-old and even the umbilical cord has not been severed. It is suspected that the child was left abandoned as it was born with deformity.
The infant was not born in the hospital as umbilical cord had not been cut off during childbirth. It is suspected that perhaps the child was born elsewhere and was discarded near the hospital. A case has been registered at the Hanur police station. “The CCTV footage is being looked into and the case is under investigation,” said police inspector Santosh Kashyap.
