Chamarajanagara: The Divisional Bench of Madras High Court has directed NHAI and Tamilnadu Public Works Department officers to give a detailed report about closure of Bengaluru – Coimbatore National Highway – 958 between 9.00 pm to 6.00 am.

Hearing a petition filed by environmental organisations on Thursday January 27, the bench comprising Justice V. Bharatidasan and N. Satish Kumar observed that from 2012 to 2021 more than 152 animals including three leopard cubs died in the accident. The amicus curie and advocate for petitioners appealed the court to ban vehicular traffic from Dimbam and Bannari on NH – 958 to save animals from accidents.

The NH passing through Satyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) has posed a big threat to animals. The Bench has directed to submit report before February 3 next and posted the case on the same date.
