Chamarajanagara: The famous Male Mahadeeshwara Temple in District has witnessed surge in number of devotees post Covid. The shrine was closed for months since July and opened for devotees with all poojas and sevas from October 17.

The number of devotees increased to 25000 – 30000 during weekends and holidays. Speaking to News Karnataka on Tuesday November 9, Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Temple Development Authority Secretary Jayavibhava Swamy said that thousands of devotees are offering special poojas daily, and we are witnessing rush for poojas during weekends and Amavasya day.” He said post Covid the temple opened for Darshan only, but after resuming all pooja services devotees from places faraway too have been visiting the temple.

He said during Diwali and Balipadyami day, 149 devotees offered Golden Ratha Seva, 80 devotees offered Basava Vahana Seva, 534 offered devotees Huli Vahana Seva and 34 devotees offered Rudrakshi Vahana Seva to God. He said on November 5, Diwali day, Temple received income of Rs. 19.91 lakhs through various sevas, and also received Rs. 19.17 lakh income on November 6. On November 7, more than 200 devotees offered Golden Ratha Seva.

The rush of devotees would continue for another month as it is holy Karthika month which is auspicious for devotees. The temple has been offering special pooja on every Mondays and Deepotsava will also be conducted. The surge in number of devotees brought cheers to the traders beside temple as they are facing hardships for life during lockdowns.
