Chamarajanagara: Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Mekedatu project is beneficial for the District. If you want water, one from each home should join the Mekedatu march.

Speaking at the awareness programme organised by Congress party about Mekedatu march on Sunday January 2 here he said that Union BJP Government did not issue permission for Detailed Project Report (DPR) Mekedatu Project following pressure by Tamil Nadu.

He alleged that Tamil Nadu Unit BJP President Annamalai was staging dharna against Mekedatu Project, and even BJP National General Secretary C. T. Ravi has been supporting him. He said Tamil Nadu has been opposing the project for political reasons but none can oppose drinking water projects. Even Supreme Court denied issuing stay order for project while hearing Tamil Nadu petition. He challenged Water Resource Minister Govind Karjol to release the proof and documents about stand of Congress party when in power.

He said that the people of the State should know the truth. He said Congress government in the year 2018 itself sent a DPR worth Rs. 5912 Crore to Union Government when D. K. Shivakumar was Water Resource Minister.

He alleged that the State BJP Government did not release the bills of contractors who completed the works when Congress was in power. He said that though government work is god’s work has been written in Vidhana Soudha but demons are sitting inside the same. He called upon people to oust the BJP Government.

He said his Chief Minister’s post strengthened after visiting Chamarajanagara and he did not believe in blind belief that CM would lose power if he visits Chamarajanagara, a backward district. He said Congress made it public that 36 patients died in Chamarajanagara District Hospital owing to shortage of oxygen, he said and alleged that the BJP Government’s erstwhile Minister Suresh Kumar and Minister Dr. Sudhakar tried to hush up the deaths by saying that just three persons died of Oxygen shortage.

Before the meeting leaders D. K. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah offered pooja at Chamarajeshwara Temple.
