Mysuru: A 26-year-old Chimpanzee named Mirella – who died two months ago on June 29, was allegedly killed by the workers of the Zoo.
Creating controversy over the death of the Chimpanzee, sources say that the workers of the Zoo poisoned the Chimp and killed it – however, it was said that the wild animal had a cardiac arrest.
Clearing the air, Rehana Banu – the Chairperson of Karnataka Zoo Authority said that routine food was given, which has been sent to the forensic department to get accurate reason for the death. The report is expected in a few days.
“Death may have been caused due to the bacteria”, she added.
Reacting to this, the Zoo Director B P Ravi has said, “I have confidence on my workers and if any worker has poisoned the chimp serious action will be taken against them”.
“Currently, only the primary postmortem report has been obtained, the full report is still pending. However as per the primary report, the Chimp died due to bacterial infection”, he stated.
