Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddharamaiah will be laying the foundation stone for construction of a Memorial for former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs on Aug 20, said Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya while addressing a meeting at the DC’s office.
The construction will be done on a 2-acre plot of land at an estimated cost of Rs. 5 crore at Hunsur.
Speaking at a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in city in connection with the preparations for the year-long birth centenary celebrations of late Devaraj Urs, he said that plans were afoot for the renovation of the former CM’s residence in Kallahalli, Hunsur taluk, at a cost of Rs. 6.6 lakh.
Elaborating on the preparations, the Social Welfare Minister said that a high-level committee headed by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah and himself as the Vice-President comprising leaders S.M. Krishna, Mallikarjuna Kharge, Jaffer Sharif, K.H. Srinivas, H.Vishwanath and others as members had been formed to chalk out programmes for the year-long celebrations.
Responding to a query from Dr. M.G.R.Urs, who sought installation of a statue or a bust in memory of the late CM, Anjaneya said that the proposal would be discussed with Chief Minister before taking a call.
The meeting also discussed modalities on the government’s proposal of adopting Kallahalli, the native place of Devaraj Urs.
MCC Commissioner Dr. C.G.Betsurmath, Principal Secretary of the Department of Backward Classes and Minorities Shalini Rajneesh, ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath, former MP A. H. Vishwanath, MUDA Commissioner Dr. M. Mahesh, SP Abhinav Khare, ZP CEO P.A.Gopal and DC C. Shikha were present.
