Mysore: Women shined in Dasara that was exclusively held for them at the sideline of grand Dasara celebrations in palace city.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shikha and state Kannada and culture minister Umashree offered motion for cultural procession in front of DC’s office here.

The women donned the role of heroic women rulers in pre-independence era – Onake Obavva, Kittoor Rani Chennamma, Mysore royals Jayachamarajendra and Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, while the other women presented different traditional dances on the city’s main streets on the occasion. Its significant that the minister Umashree also joined the women in folk-dances.

The cultural process that began from DC office passed through Vinobha roundabout, Metropol roundabout and concluded at J K maidan.

Sandalwood actor Umashree offered motion for the programme held at J K maidan, here.

Speaking on the occasion Umashree said that the women in pre Independence era contributed immensely for freedom struggle and also for nation building in post Independence era.  India a stronger nation seeks peace.  Although the Indian constitution bestowed equal rights and respect to women, they are yet to get their due rights.  The general awareness in this regard is essential among the women itself, said Umashree.

The change should come within and it’s not possible to bring changes through women organizations alone.  The Anganawady animators can contribute for nation building by caring for children with nutritious food, because healthy children are the future responsible citizens of the nation, added Umashree.

The mayor Rajeshwari, MLA Vasu, ZP president Koorgalli Mahadevu, women Dasara sub-Committee president Susheela Keshavamurthi, women and child welfare deputy director Vijay, Anganawady animators, women self-help-groups members were present on the occasion.
