Mysuru: Its no secret that ‘men in khaki’ too accept bribes to turn a blind eye towards hideous goings on.
Here in Mysuru, five cops landed in trouble after a diary that was seized from a pimp, revealed that payments were made to them regularly. The five are alleged to have accepted bribes to allow a sex trafficking racket to operate under the garb of beauty parlors in the city.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Mysuru Odanadi NGO, the Mysuru police had, on July 28, raided two parlors belonging to one Hemavathi in the city and rescued three women who were being forced into the flesh trade. They also arrested Hemavathi and two of her aides under sections of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act and criminal intimidation. During the raid the cops seized a car, 10 mobile phones, 15 SIM cards, several diaries, videos of victims engaged in sex acts and a swiping machine.
It was while going through the diaries that the police noticed regular entries that indicated monthly payments being made to cops in order to allow the continuation of their operations.
The officers – Ravi Kumar, Krishne Gowda and Manju and two station staff members Sanappa and Diwaker, have currently been suspended and can be arrested if the suspicions against them are proved to be true during the probe, informed a police source.
