Mysuru: Congress corporators manhandled Mysuru City Corporation Mayor for allegedly postponing Standing Committee here at the MCC office on Friday, November 20.
The Mayor is said to have postponed the elections for 4 Standing committees which were scheduled to be held on Friday after he received a call. Following this, he was seen leaving the office from the back door. When informed that the election was postponed to Monday, the corporators visibly enraged gheraoed and then manhandled the Mayor and kept him from leaving the office.
In the Mayoral elections held last week JD(S) and BJP had a coalition. Consequently, Independent candidate Bhairappa who had joined JD(S) at the last moment was elected as the Mayor. As decided, JD(S) was supposed to get two Standing committees and two remaining committees were for the BJP.
It was decided that the election for the Standing committee was to be held on Friday. But in a sudden political development last night, members of the JD(S) who were not happy with the results of last week’s Mayoral elections joined hands with the Congress. Members who found out about this, informed their high command about these developments.
When the mayor received a call at the last moment from the high command during the meeting, he allegedly postponed the election and tried to leave the venue from the back door. Enraged by this sudden postponement, Congress corporators caught hold of the Mayor and protested in front of his office.
