Mysuru: Police and fire personnel, with the support of locals rescued a cow at Ringroad in Jayadevanagar in Mysuru, after it reportedly fell into a gutter as it was sifting through the waste that was thrown by the side of the road.
Mysuru is a place where most of the households depend on dairy farming. It is common in the city for cows to be left out for grazing, roaming on roads, eating plastic waste from garbage and dying subsequently.
On Wednesday, locals had dumped waste in a gutter near the Royal In hotel and had closed it. Meanwhile, a cow went in search of food near the garbage and fell into the gutter and despite putting efforts could not come out. However, the fire personnel and police turned out to be good Samaritans as they rescued the cow after an operation that was carried out for two hours.
Locals enraged with these continued instances of cattle falling prey to open drains and garbage menace in the city, protested against the City Corporation and blamed officials who have failed to take any action in this regard.
