Mysuru: The proposed district hospital will be set up at the Epidemic Disease Hospital premise which is located on KRS road. The hospital will be constructed on a nearly 13-acre land at the cost of Rs 70 crore. The tender is expected to be floated in a month or two. A team from Bengaluru will be inspecting the place in a day or two.Three places were shortlisted for the proposed district hospital, but the government zeroed on the ED Hospital. The health department in its letter, which identified the ED Hospital premises for the construction of the much needed district hospital, instructed Karnataka Health System Project Department to conduct a survey at the ED Hospital premise. According to sources, the government decided to construct the district hospital at the ED Hospital premise, because of various other hospitals which are present in the surrounding places including the under construction Jayadeva Hospital and already established TB Hospital and ESI Hospital.

The proposed 250-bedded district hospital will be on the lines of multispecialty hospital. The hospital which will be three storied building will have all specialists including pediatricians, orthopedicians, gynecologists and other related specialists. The government has taken up the project very seriously and has decided to complete the project in a year’s time. Initially, the government had planned to construct the hospital at the cost of Rs 60 crore, but now it has been revised to Rs 70 crore. A team from Bengaluru will be visiting shortly and later planning, estimating and tenders will also be floated.

The district hospital was one of the long pending demands of the department of health and family welfare. KR Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital are the hospitals attached to Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) under the directorate of medical education which caters to patients not only from across the district, but also neighboring districts including Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Madikeri. Every day at an average more than one thousand patients visit KR Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital. With the staff in skeletal numbers, the doctors had a tough time in providing justice to all the patients. Once the district hospital becomes a reality, more than 50 per cent of the patients will be diverted to the district hospital and the doctors at KR Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital can dedicate and focus more on the patients.
