Mysuru: The Women’s Commission has issued a notice to Mandi police for not taking any action against a family who were reportedly harassing a woman for dowry.
The victim, Manjushree, had complained to the court against her mother-in-law, husband’s brother and sister on charges of dowry harassment.

Manjushree was married to one Purushottam, son of Chandrappa and Pushpa from Bambu Bazar seven years ago. Following dowry harassment, the victim filed a complaint against her husband’s family.

The Court pronounced the judgment and allowed her to stay with husband. But the in-laws locked the house and moved somewhere else.

She took the court order and approached the City Police Commissioner, ACP Umesh, Mandi police and requested him to allow her to live with her husband and to also provide security. But no action was taken.

Now the victim along with her grandparents has been protesting in front of her in-law’s house seeking justice.

The Women’s Commission met the victim and then called the police. Even after the call, the police were negligent and arrived late to the spot.

Enraged over police negligence, Commission president Manjula Manasa said “We will serve a notice to Mandi police for not acting even after the victim has the court order”.

Condemning police negligence, she said, “A complaint has been filed at the Women’s Commission. Local Police have been not responding to such cases and they have failed to impart justice to women.”
