Mysuru: Two thieves who had burgled the house of a temple priest, left the stolen valuables near an electric pole about 60 mts away from the house and escaped, here on Tuesday. The robbery took place in Alanahalli, which comes under Nazarbad police station.
Somanna, a priest at Mahadeshwara temple is a resident of Alanahalli. On Tuesday, he had gone to the temple while other members of his family went to a relative’s house near Kyatamaranahalli.
The thieves who were waiting for them to leave the house, broke open the door and decamped with gold worth Rs 3.5 lakhs, which was reportedly saved for the priest’s daughter’s wedding. One of them kept watch by sitting on a Hero Puch at a distance while the other broke open the lock and entered the house.
On returning home, Kavitha, the daughter of the priest and, Madhu, his son, found that the door was open and suspected robbery.
They informed the other family members and screamed for assistance. Hearing the voices outside, the thief are said to have escaped through the back door. Madhu tried to catch him but in vain.
Madhu immediately informed relatives in Kyatamaranahalli who thereby informed the police. Nazarbad police who arrived at the spot, collected details about the incident. Other staff went in the direction the thieves had escaped.
Police personnel in the same direction found an electric pole about 60 mts away from the priest’s house with its light switched off. When they went near the pole to switch on the light, they found a box behind the electric pole. Madhu identified the box in which the gold was kept.
Even though it is not clear as to why the thieves had left the gold box, Somanna said, “This is a miracle by Mahadeshwara.”
