Mysuru: A special Indian Air Force (IAF) carrier C-17 airlifted new currency notes from Mysuru to Chandigarh to tide over the fresh currency crisis, post demonetisation.
The RBI note printing unit in Mysuru, BRBNMPL had requested for an aircraft to enable quick and safe delivery. Accordingly, a four-engine air force carrier had landed in the city to carry new Rs 2000 note bundles.
The notes were shipped form BRBNMPL unit to Mandakalli Airport amid tight security from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.
For the first time in the country’s history, notes were shipped in an aircraft and if the need arises more aircraft will be deployed, said an RBI official monitoring the operations.
