Mysuru: If our country wants to be developed, manufacturing industry should be strong, said D Randeep, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner, Mysuru District.

Speaking during prize distribution function of the third Edition of CII Mysuru Skill Competition organized at three difference centres in Mysuru at Automotive Axle, JK tyre & Vidya Vikas Engineering College premise here on Sunday he said, “In most of the foreign countries, more emphasis is given to manufacturing industry which is not the same in our country where we are giving importance to IT sector. Going on countries’ population, manufacturing sector has got more employment opportunity. The mindset of the people should change and we need to value the importance of technical expertise. My brother who has done his automobile engineering is working in Ford Company in Germany. Even in Germany, technical experts are given more importance than the administration people who have done MBA. It’s the same with most of the developed countries”.

Randeep also mentioned that when employees from many industries get together for any program includes competition, more than the winning prizes, the cross learning between each other helps the employees to learn more. “Talent may differ from individual to individual, when get together, we have scope to exchange ideas and thoughts which in turn can be applied in respective industries which may help to improve productions and services,” said Randeep who did Electronics Engineering from RV College, Bengaluru.

Speaking after inaugurating the prize distribution function, R Guru, Chairman of NR Group who also spoke on the occasion said, “One can’t just go on experience, we need to adapt to changing technologies. An employee in Jawa Factory was having nearly 25 years of experience in welding. The employee thought that he is well versed in the trade, the management of the company too felt the same, and even communicated the same to Czechoslovakia where he was supposed to go for training. Later when the employee was undergoing training at Czechoslovakia, the personnel from Czechoslovakia said that the person is not much aware of welding. So experience is not the matter, but the thing is how much you are updated with the subject is important”.

Dr N Muthukumar, Chairman, CII Mysuru called upon the participants to take the best from here and implement the same in their respective firms so that the management who had sent them will also feel happy. “Share whatever you have learnt from this competition with your colleagues. This not only improves your firm, but also Mysuru, Karnataka and India as a whole”.

U K Shenoy, Vice President, JK Tyre said, “This sort of events will enable us to improve our techniques and also enable us to make ‘Make in India’ concept a reality. Each one of us has to improve our knowledge and skills to achieve this goal”.

The competition was conducted in four different areas; MIG welding; Turning; Soldering; Shaft Alignment & CAD Drawing which play an important role in the manufacturing of almost all everyday products. The successful application not only requires skills to make the required product, but also the knowledge of materials processes which are used. CII Mysuru with this background towards the Skill Development Initiatives organized Skill Competition. Randeep distributed the prizes to the winners.
