Mysuru: There were reports that 75 percent of the engineering students who pass out every year are not industry fit. Hence keeping this in mind, the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) has submitted a proposal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to set up Karnataka German Technical Training Institute in the city.

The institute will help students to find job opportunities in the global workplace and to make them industry-ready as per international standards. KSDC Chairman Muralidhar Halappa said that the chief minister had given his approval for the proposal and directed the district administration to take measures towards setting up the centre in the city.

The objective of the centre is to conduct broad-based multidisciplinary vocational training in various industrial and technical fields. “Karnataka government and Germany have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and as per the agreement, we need to provide resources such as land and water and the German company will invest funds towards setting up the centre. Initially, the centre will function from one of the existing buildings. The centre would become a reality in three months,” added Muralidhar Halappa.

All the programmes and training standards are demand-oriented and are closed linked with industry. To provide international standards and hands-on training, the centre will be equipped with extensive state-of-the-art training facilities. The centre can train up to 3,000 candidates per year.

The focus is to offer skill-specific training that will help students find excellent job opportunities. The centre would cater to the needs of the students from Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Kodagu district.
