Kodagu: Members of the Codava National Council (CNC) have written letters to elected representatives requesting to grant tribal status to the Kodava community.

MLAs K. G. Bopaiah and M. P. Appachu Ranjan, MLCs M. P. Sunil Subramani and Shantheyanda Veena Achaiah, District Congress Committee President T. Dharmaja Uthappa, and JD (S) District Unit President K. M. B. Ganesh were among those who received a memorandum by CNC President N.U. Nachappa.

They stated that in the same way that Kashmiri pandits are regarded traditional residents, Kodavas are native to the district. They further stated that in the Gazetteer of Coorg, there is a reference of Kodava tribal food and tradition. By organising meetings in every nook and corner of the district, the CNC has been raising awareness of the traditions. They demanded that the community should be given tribal status.
