Kodagu: Kusha, originally from Dubare Elephant camp is heading back from Moolehole forest area in Bandipur Tiger Reserve to Dubare again in search of a mate.
About six months ago, Kusha was released into Bandipur Forest following a government order.
The elephant which was captured in Chetnalli in 2016 had been brought to the Dubare elephant camp from where he escaped in 2017. After missing for two years, he was brought back to the camp by the Forest Department efforts. He being chained garnered widespread furore among animal lovers including MP Maneka Gandhi.
Soon, the then Forest Minister Aravind Limbavali ordered the release of the elephant after radio collaring him.
Now through radio collar he has been tracked on his way to Nagarahole National Park. Travelling over 200 kms in last six months he has reached Titimati near Nagarahole. He will soon reach Dubare, informed the officials.
According to Mahout, Kusha might be wanting meet his companions from elephant camp.
