Madikeri: Home minister G Parameshwara visited Kodagu after violent clashes erupted in the district against Tipu birth anniversary celebrations on November 10 and collected information from the local police.
Speaking to media persons, the Home minister said, “Kodagu is known for peace and the death of two persons in the clashes is condemnable. The government has ordered for a magisterial probe into the incidents and those involved in the violence will face legal action”, he said.
The Minister also visited the kin of the deceased VHP leader Kuttappa in Madapura.
Meanwhile, Jagadish Shettar, leader of Opposition in the Assembly, visited Kuttappa’s family and handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh. He demanded CBI probe into the Tipu Jayanti clashes instead of a magisterial inquiry.
The decison to hold the birth anniversary of Tipu turned out to be a controversial affair after violence erupted in Madikeri in Kodagu, where Tipu is considered a traitor. The violence claimed the life of Kuttappa and a 20-year-old Saahul from Chettalli in Kodagu.
