Kodagu: A fissure appeared at the Ayyappa Hill in Virajapete Town on Saturday July 16 prompting the officers to shift 221 people from 80 families to Care Centre at St. Anne’s School.
It is said that all the people have been residing at Ayyappa and near by Maletirike Hill since many decades. In the year 2018 too the hill witnessed landslide and fissure. The officials shifted the residents to Care Centre that year also. This year owing to heavy rains, a crack has appeared at the Ayyappa Hill.
As a precautionary measure, officials shifted the residents to safer places. However the people residing below the hills are living under fear of landslide and subsequent destruction of houses.
