Kodagu: Police has booked two persons on charges of religious conversion of tribals. It is said that Kuriachchan and Selviyamma, both natives of bordering Kerala were visiting tribal colonies in Kutta of Ponnampete Taluk frequently for converting people into Christianity.
Few workers of the Hindu outfits caught the couple red-handed while luring tribals Pani Eravara Muthu at their house on the evening of Tuesday May 17. The couple were handed over to Kutta police. The duo have been booked under section IPC 295 A.
Kutta Police Sub Inspector K. Mahadeva said that as the new Anti-Conversion Law is yet to be published in State Gazette, we have now booked them under old sections. He said while filing chargesheet they would make the amendments and would book them under new Anti-Conversion Law.
Hindu outfits urged police to take stringent action against accused as they were converting the tribals by luring them. Police has also seized a diary from the couple in which they recorded names of converted people. Police investigation is on.
