Kodagu: A two-and-a-half month old male elephant calf has been rescued at a coffee estate in Manchalli near Kutta on Wednesday August 10.

The calf suspected to have been separated from her mother, and may have washed away in river water due to the heavy rainfall in the recent days. However, it is healthy and there is no reason to worry.

Srimangala Range Forest Officers Dincy Dechamma (Srimangala) and Ponnampet RFO Shankar visited the spot. The elephant has been shifted to Mathigodu elephant camp in Tithimathi for care
