Kodagu: The unexpected spike in fertiliser price has severely affected the farmers in Kodagu District.
Since the last monsoon, the price of Muriate of Potash (MOP) has risen by more than 90 per cent, pushing farmers to seek an increase in subsidy.
According to sources, District Head of the Farmers’ Association C. Ganesh has informed that farmers are losing a lot of money because of the steady rain and rising fertiliser prices, especially MoP and Ammonium Sulphate. The expense of production is rising by the day. Farmers are hardly profiting from their harvest. The current fertiliser subsidy of Rs. 300 per bag must be increased to at least Rs. 1,000 per bag by the government, he added.
