Kodagu: Thousands of devotees witnessed teerthodbhava at Talacauvery near here on Sunday October 17.
Owing to Covid District Administration restricted entry for devotees and after 11.00 am devotees were not allowed to go to shrine.
The devotees here believe that Goddess Cauvery gives darshan every year on Cauvery Sankramana day. This year as predicted by the priests teertodbhava occurred at exact 1.11 pm. Temple head priest Gururaj Achar and 10 other priests performed pooja.
Every year at least 50000 to 100000 devotees from Karnataka and Tamilnadu visit this pilgrim centre. But this year the number of devotees in comparison to other preceding years was very less.
Goddess Cauvery is the home deity of the Kodava community, the original inhabitants of Kodagu. Devotees ake holy dip after the teertodbhava in the pond beside the Kundike and also carry holy water back home. But owing to Covid pandemic, the authorities arranged tight security and did not allow devotees to take holydip. However, the devotees collected holy water in bottles and cans.
