Mysuru: It has come to light that the Kannada language is being sidelined in favor of the English language in Mysuru, Officials and public representatives have failed to rectify this issue despite being approached by the Kannada-speaking community, leading to dismay among the local residents. The situation is so concerning that within the next 15-20 days, a petition will be submitted to replace the English signage with Kannada in association with the cultural department, the Mysuru City Corporation, and the District Administration.
However, officials who have neglected their responsibilities in this matter are currently facing backlash for continuing government jobs without making efforts to address this issue. Those who are supposed to lead the way by setting an example have been called upon to resign from their positions and make way for more dedicated individuals. The Mysuru City Corporation has also expressed its disappointment, stating that the responsible officials must rectify their actions and make amends by taking moral responsibility for the situation.
During a recent visit to the One Star Pizza (Onesta) restaurant, located on Gokulam Kalidasa Road, it was discovered that the establishment had completely ignored the use of Kannada in their signs, unaware of the requirement to prioritize the Kannada language. As a result, a strong stance has been taken, and action will be taken in the coming weeks to correct this situation by replacing English signage with Kannada.
The founders of the petition, led by the Chairman of the Mysuru Cultural Department, DPK Paramesh, as well as Vice President P.V. Kumar, and Managing Director Manoj Kumar, among others, have raised their concerns and plan to present their request within a week. The board members and representatives of the Mysuru Cultural Department, along with numerous other individuals, were also present during this event.
