Kushalnagar: State congress working president Dinesh Gundu Rao will be attending the rally to support the agitation demanding separate Cauvery taluk status with Kushalnagar as center, it is reliably learnt.
A delegation led by the V P Shashidhar spearheading the agitation, met the Congress working president and sought his support.
Dinesh Gundu Rao has assured of his participation during the proposed rally on October 30, said Shashidhar, emerging from the meeting after talking to state Congress working President and added that his support strengthened the resolve of those keeping forth the demand for Cauvery taluk. Agitators have been demanding separate taluk status for the last 10 days and different organizations including local advocates’ association, Jaya Karnataka Vedike and religious organizations have extended their support. They have been resorting to road blocks to impress upon the state administration to create a new taluk.
Former Chief Minister and Dinesh’s father R Gundu Rao represented Somwarpet assembly constituency in 1980 and went on to become the state chief minister after getting re-elected. Incidentally Dinesh’s parents and grandparents hailed from Kushalanagar and the state working president has kept close contacts with erstwhile congress leaders from the region. People in the area still remember R Gundu Rao for the developmental works carried out during his tenure as chief minister. Dinesh Gundu Rao was made the district In-charge minister of Kodagu before he relinquished his charge as food and civil supplies minister to take over as state congress working president.
Leaders in the forefront of agitation including T R Sarvanakumar, R K Nagendra Babu, S N Narasimha Murthy and Abdul Khadar were part of the delegation that met Dinesh Gundu Rao.
