Madikeri: The district administration has made elaborate security arrangements in the district to ensure that no untoward incidents take place during the Tipu Jayanthi slated to be held on November 10.
Addressing the press meet jointly at the district administration auditorium, deputy commissioner Dr.Richard Vincent D’Souza and Superintendent of police Rajendar Prasad sought people’s cooperation and disclosed measures on security to maintain law and order.
The DC said that Section 144 has been clamped from November 7 to 11 to ensure peace, law and order in the district.
SP Rajendra Prasad said, “senior police officers Sunil Agarwal and IGP B K Singh have already arrived at the district head quarters to assess the situation.Two SP’s, 8 DySP’s, 20 Sub-inspectors , 1450 policemen, 500 home guards and 12 units belonging to KSRP, DAR and sector mobile wings have been deployed to ensure security during the celebration”. Night patrolling, Inspection at check points too is in progress since 20 days and CCTV cameras have been installed at sensitive locations, the SP confirmed allaying fears of public. Additional DC M Satish Kumar too was present in the press meet.
All liquor outlets will remain closed from 10 pm on November 9th to 11am on November 11.
Some right wing supported organizations have called for Kodagu bandh on November 10. With ruling Congress and opposition BJP at logger heads over the issue the going is not going to be easy for the district administration till the events concludes.
It may be recalled, VHP local leader Kuttappa and one more person died later during last year’s celebrations when both warring fractions came face to face which resulted in the escalation of violence in Madikeri city.
