They used to make videos of various shops and commercial setups and then threaten the owners of a negative story if they failed to pay them money.

Several cases stand registered against the gang in Banashankari, Basavanagudi and nearby areas.

The gang first hit headlines in September this year when Mahadeva and Ashok tried to blackmail a garment store owner in Southern Bengaluru.

The duo visited the store in Jayanagar in September and interviewed the staff and shot videos of the products on display saying they want to feature the store in a news story. The next day, the gang called up the owner and threatened him of airing story that he sells fake products. The gang had kept forth a demand of Rs 50,000 to prevent the story from going on air.

The owner of the shop had then gone to the jurisdictional Banashankari police which tracked down two of the suspects. The rest of them had gone missing then.
