Fake Swami allegedly ‘drives out evil spirit’; Kills woman

Madikeri: A elderly woman was found dead in a mysterious circumstances at the residence of a sorcerer in Madikeri on Monday. It is alleged that she was the victim to the fake sorcery.
Asha (50) from Ibnavalavadi is the victim, who was found dead at Durgadatta Kalidasa Swamiji, a self proclaimed sorcerer’s residence.

According to reports, Asha had sought the help of Swamiji as she was possessed by spirits. The burn injuries on her body suggested that she might have been killed by the sorcerer.

Asha on October 11 had attended special prayers and rituals at the residence, which are conducted every Sunday. On the same day, she fell severely ill and by mid-night she was possessed by a spirit, it has been reported.

It is learnt that the swamy had thrashed her brutally, due to which she breathed her last on the spot. Her body was found at the prayer hall the next morning.

The locals and relatives of the woman gathered when they came to know about the death. They also filed a murder case against the Swamiji.

Kalidasa Swamy, his associate Dharani and her children have been detained by the police.

K Mohammad Iqbal from Siddapura had reportedly changed his name as Shri Durgadatta Kalidasa Swamy in May 2015. He was staying at a residence of Dharani Ibnavalavadi from last two years and promised the locals that he specialised in driving out evil spirits.
