Madikeri: A young wild elephant calf fell into an open well on Monday 26. According to the reports, a calf from an elephant herd fell into a well on Subramani’s coffee estate in Bhadragola village, near Gonicoppa.
The calf, who is around 5 years old couldn’t get out of the well, was removed by ropes in a three-hour operation by forest officials with the help of department elephant Krishna. Soon after it came out, the calf ran away into forest to join with its herd.
Despite warnings from villagers that wild elephants are ruining thousands of rupees worth of crops, forest inspectors have failed to find a permanent solution to the threat.
