Madikeri clash during Tipu Jayanti: Kodagu DC blamed

Mysuru: It has been reported that the police team which is investigating the Madikeri violence during Tipu birth anniversary celebrations, has partially held the deputy commissioner responsible for the clashes.

Kodagu VHP secy Kuttappa's death was not accidental: Investigating officer -1The Kodagu police has claimed that the DC had failed to invite Kodagu SP to a meeting to discuss the preparations for the Tipu Jayanti.

According to police sources, the deputy commissioner had also invited over 600 Muslims to the celebrations when such gatherings should be limited to 200 people.

Violent clashes erupted in Madikeri between two groups belonging to different communities on the day of Tipu Jayanti. The investigations revealed that the violence began after a mob of Hindus stoned Muslims heading for the celebrations. Muslims had retaliated and some of them targeted a man, Kuttappa, who fell from a height of 20 feet as he tried to escape and died.

Despite severe opposition from across the state against organizing Tipu Jayanti, the State government celebrated the Jayanti in November last year.
