Mother, daughter drown in quarry pit at Kodlipet

Kodlipet: In a tragic incident a mother and her daughter drowned in a stone quarry pond while washing clothes in Kallare village near Kodlipet on October 16.

Shobha aged 29 and her daughter Vidyashri aged 11 are the deceased.

They went to wash clothes in a nearby quarry pond filled with water where the little daughter lost balance and slipped first. When mother tried to rescue her daughter, a 5th grade student, she too slipped and eventually both drowned. Hearing their cries her little son Dharmendra who was playing in the vicinity alerted people nearby but both could not be rescued as time had elapsed .

Public tried to retrieve the bodies but failed in their attempt. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and and pulled out the bodies from the pond.

Heart rending scene was witnessed near the pond where little Dharmendra and labourer Anand who lost both his wife and daughter turned inconsolable.

Circle inspector Parashivamurthy,Shanivarsanthe police sub inspector Mariswamy visited the spot and later police registered a complaint.
