Mysuru–Mani to be made National Highway?

Madikeri: If everything goes well, the existing state highway from Bengaluru–Mani via Mysuru and Madikeri will be made national highway and the project is likely to be implemented in the next few years.

According to sources, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been asked to study the project proposal prepared in 2014 by the Highway Authority under Karnataka Government in detail and explore the possibilities to upgrade the existing 4-lane state highway into 6-lane national highway bearing number 275.

According to sources, private agencies will conduct a detailed survey and make an assessment of all the pros and cons before submitting detailed project report (DPR) to NHAI for approval.

The existing 4-lane state highway will be converted to 6-lane national highway with 2 service paths on each side. The 10-lane road will be 200 feet wide ultimately but the actual width in city limits will depend on the traffic congestion.

There will be other issues related to acquiring land and clearing buildings to make way for the proposed highway and the road authorities have planned to set aside Rs 2600 Crore for the purpose. In many places, bypass roads are expected to be built to ensure free flow of traffic.

A clear picture is likely to emerge in the next few days on the Rs 4600 Crore project but if one goes by the back door activities, a national highway connecting Bengaluru–Mani via Mysuru and Madikeri will be a a reality in the next few years.
