Madikeri: The Supreme Court of India had clearly stated that a representative contesting the panchayat elections should not have three ‘live births’ in his/her family, upholding the Odisha High Court judgement.

This fear of losing the chance of contesting the elections was also observed in Karnataka. But the National President of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Organisation Meenakshi Natarajan and the President of Panchayat Raj Parishat Narayana Swamy had clearly said that It would not affect other states.

District Organiser of Panchayati Raj Organisation Teneera Maina has said that there was no need to panic and get confused.

Speaking to the reporters Maina said, “According to the constitution, the Panchayat Raj norms fall under the respective states. The norms which were implemented in Odisha and 12 other states have been amended as per the directions of the Supreme Court.”

“Karnataka and several other states have not incorporated these norms and I request people not to be confused and panic on this issue”, he added.

Teneera Maina said that every individual will contest the panchayat elections according to the Panchayat Raj norms.
