Madikeri: Opposition to Tipu Jayanthi is on the rise with an outfit opposing the same calling for Kodagu bandh on November 10, while women in Mysuru took up pestles to crush it.
Tipu Jayanthi Horata Samiti has called for a districtwide bandh on November 10 from 6 AM to 6 PM. The outfit has demanded the day to be remembered in honour of VHP activist Kuttappa who died in 2015. It has asked the all vehicle owners to stay off roads and educational institutions to remain shut on the bandh day.
However, Bhoomi Mattu Vasati Horata Samiti has opposed the Kodagu bandh call. Its convener D S Nirvanappa said, it is not right to oppose a government programme as only 10 percent of the people linked to Sangh Parivar are against it and not the rest.
Meanwhile, women took up pestles and marched through the streets before assembling at Gandhi Square in Mysuru opposing Tipu Jayanthi celebrations.
MP Pratap Simha addressed the protestors and said the government was going ahead with the celebrations to take political advantage. The protestors urged the government to drop the plan.
