Two elephants electrocuted in Kodagu

Madikeri: Two wild elephants died of electrocution in Kannangala village of Virajpet, close on the heels of death of an elephant calf trapped in slush.

Both the elephants had ventured into a coffee estate in search of food. To clear the path one of the elephants pulled the branch of large tree (named Baine locally). In the process, the branch came along with an overhead high tension wire resulting in electrocution of both elephants.

Elephants aged 26 and 19 were buried in the vicinity by the forest department staff.

Other elephants were seen mourning over the death and moving helplessly in and around the area where both were lying dead.
