Mandya: If not for a gruesome mishap, a wedding to be solemnized on Monday would have been filled with fun and frolic moments. But, unfortunately 13 persons heading to attend a marriage met their tragic end when a mini lorry in which they were plying ran into a tree. Another 20 were left severely injured. The incident took place late on Sunday night on Tumakuru-Kollegal highway at a place called Thoreshettihalli of Maddur taluk.
The deceased are Jayamma (46), Beeramma (51), Parvathamma (48), Pooja 916) from Yadenahalli of Maddur, Shivanna (46) from Avasaradahalli, Sarojamma (50), Madamma (55), Meenakshi (45), Sonu (5), Kamalamma (75), Kalamma (56), Renukamma (40) and Sannamma (60).
One of their relative Rajanna had fixed his daughter’s marriage at Shivapura and he had arranged a mini lorry to ferry the relatives from the village to the wedding. It is said that the driver’s negligence caused the mishap that claimed over ten lives. Despite the intensity of the mishap, the driver has managed to escape from the spot. While some died on the spot, some died on the hospital and some more died in the hospital.
Another 20 have been kept in the ICU of a local hospital. MLA D C Thammanna rushed to the spot along with SP G Radhika and others.
