Mandya: Members of the Deve Gowda family don’t seem to care about the public’s dislike of their role in the JD(S) party’s affairs. The family takes the final call at almost every stage of the party’s decision-making process.
The most recent example of their interference is in the ongoing by-election. Chennamma Deve Gowda, wife of JD(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, herself handed over the B Form to B L Devaraju, the party’s candidate from the K R Pet constituency.
She handed over the B Form after a puja, an act that has now led to sharp criticism, as Devaraju is a distant relative of the Gowda family.
This is the first time that Chennamma has been seen handing over the B Form to any party candidate. So far, this job was done by other members of the Gowda family.
