Mandya: The Mandya District Court Complex has been facing acute shortage of court halls to conduct hearings. The present court complex situated near Deputy Commissioner’s Office has 15 various courts. Among them 7 courts are facing shortage of court halls.

Day by day the number of cases are increasing in all the courts. At present many court proceedings are being conducted at verandah, car shed, and even beside toilet. Four years back a family court was sanctioned here. But owing to shortage the court is not operating regularly.

A woman client said that she has been waiting for  justice since last three years. She said the court has no space and hence has been delaying judgement. Women have to wait for daylong in court complex even without any seating arrangement. She said even advocates are facing shortage of space to sit in court halls.

The Second Additional JMFC Court is being conducted in a congested room by converting car shed andba portion of canteen into court hall. But it is also facing space shortage.

The State Government has sanctioned labour court here but the court has not started functioning yet. All yhe labour related cases are being heard in Mysuru Labour Court. Clients and advocates have to travel 50 kilometres to Mysuru for hearing of cases. It is a financial burden for poor labourers as they already lose a day’s salary to attend court hearing with travelling expenses being an extra burden on them.

Mandya District Bar Association President M. T. Rajendra said that there is no space for economic offenses court. The administrative hall was also converted in court so advocates are facing shortage of space. He said that the Bar Association has requested Mandya University to provide two rooms for conducting cases. The University authorities initially agreed and then denied.

Another advocate T. S. Sathyananda told that by the year 2027 Supreme Court justice and native of Ingalaguppe Village in Pandavapura Taluk B. V. Nagarathna would become  Chief Justice of India but  the native District of the Supreme Court Justice has no space for courts is really a pathetic condition.

The State Government in the year 2017 has sanctioned Rs. 24 Crore for construction of seven court halls. But the authorities  have failed to find suitable plot for construction has resulted in the sanctioned money getting lapse. The court authorities are writing to higher authorities evey year to provide court halls but nothing has changed.
