Nanjangudu: In a tragic incident, a man was beaten to death by locals who assumed that he was a cattle thief.

This gruesome incident took place in Korehundi village of Nanjangud on Sunday late night.

It is said that Ramesh alias Cat Ramesh (45) was spotted inside the cowshed of a local resident. Ramesh who originally hails from Badanavalu village, was living at Chamalapurahundi of Korehundi over the last five to six years.

However, as per his brother Ramu who has lodged a complaint in this regard, some unidentified persons had chased Ramesh during week hours of Sunday due to which he had sought refuge in a cowshed belonging to a local resident Chandrashekar. Soon, Ramesh was caught by another group of locals who thought he was a thief. All his efforts to explain the situation went futile as the angry locals tied him up to an electricity pole and bashed him brutally. Minutes later, Ramesh may have died due to fatal beatings, said the complaint from his brother.

The top cops have visited the spot after the incident and the body has been forwarded for post mortem.
