Mandya: On the day that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was scheduled to visit Mandya’s Dudda Hobli, November 23, a farmer from the same district committed suicide.
The deceased, Jayakumar (43), a resident of Kannahatti, was plagued by cancer and had borrowed loans worth Rs 2 lakh for agricultural as well as treatment purposes. His family suspects his debt to be the reason for his suicide.
The family and villagers have refused to cremate his body till district in-charge Minister C S Puttaraju pays them a visit.
His death sparked a protest by scores of farmers, who shouted slogans against the CM. They also attempted to attack the police, leading to several of them being taken into custody.
