Mandya: Farmers’ union activists blocked the Mysuru – Bengaluru Highway at Koppa Circle in Maddur Town and raised slogans against the State Government and the District Administration.

They condemned the action of arresting the farmers who have been protesting peacefully for the past two months in Mandya District Headquarters demanding an increase in the prices of their agricultural produce and milk.

Farmer Union leader S. S. Prakash said that the ruling politicians at the Centre and in the State have failed to meet the demands of the farmers. The Government has not taken any action even though the farmers’ organisation has been agitating for the last five decades, he stressed.

He condemned the police action of removing tents and other items from the dharna site by arresting the agitators who were demanding the rights of farmers as per the wishes of Prof M. D. Nanjundaswamy.
