Mandya: After opposition from seers of various mathas in the State, the Karnataka Government has been mulling over finding alternative to boiled eggs in mid-day meal.
Speaking to mediapersons on Sunday December 12, Primary and Secondary Education Minister B. C. Nagesh said, “The decision to include boiled eggs was based on reports from the Centre that indicated malnourishment and stunted growth among children in the State. Many experts suggested to us that egg was the best-known single source of protein, and that is the reason why we included mid-day meal scheme,” he said.
Further, Minister said that eggs were not being forced on children, and those who don’t want to have it are being provided bananas.
It can be reclaed here that the decision to provide eggs and bananas in mid-day meal were made by the State Government and began in schools for classes 1 to 8 from December 1.
